Whenever we talk about Narendra Modi, a figure of disciplined, ambitious, firm and strong personality strikes in mind. Narendra Modi had a leadership quality as his intrinsic characteristics from his early days of adolescent. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is one ideology, not a party and there was a great Role of RSS in shaping the leader of Democracy-Narendra Damodar das Modi. As per their promise, this is the only party which kept its promise by not fighting any election but always had a huge effect on Indian Political system.
Let’s know something about Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is NonGovernmental organization, Right Wing Charitable, Educational, Volunteer and Hindu Nationalist. The RSS founded on Vijayadashami Day, 27th September 1925 as a social organization to provide character training through Hindu discipline, to unite the Hindu community to demolish caste division, stand against British ruling and to oppose Muslim separatism. It is founded by Shree Keshav Baliram Hedgewar who was a Doctor in Nagpur, Maharashtra. RSS has been always making a voice keep and grow Indian culture and values.
The ideology of Sangh is to carry the Nation to pinnacle of glory through organizing the entire society and ensuring protection of Hindu Dharma. Years and years of successful events prove that it is the finest example of discipline and following the ideology without any internal politics as an organization. The RSS portrayed itself as a social movement and refused to consider itself a political party, and did not play any role in many of the efforts in Indian Independence Movement.
As per RSS vision and mission of this organization is “There could be only one explanation for the continuing march of the Sangh from strength to strength: the emotive response of the millions to the vision of Bharat’s national glory, based on the noblest values constituting the cultural and spiritual legacy of the land and collectively called “Dharma”, comprising faith in oneness of the human race, the underlying unity of all religious traditions, the basic divinity of the human being, complementarity and inter-relatedness of all forms of creation of both animate and inanimate and the primacy of spiritual experience. That the mission of the Sangh is in tune with a millennia-old heritage itself carries irresistible appeal.”
After all its progressive and strict pattern of working, it has been always criticized as an extremist organization and that is why there was a fuss about the name of Narendra Modi who is an integral part of RSS from outset. Hinduism has been the major concern for RSS so to Modi. Due to this extremist image of RSS, Secular parties always had an edge to attack Narendra Modi’s candidature as a Prime Minister and as many ministers from rival parties literally assured in their statements as Narendra Modi can never be a Prime Minister with his extremist image.
For Narendra Modi, it has been a task to become an accepted leader by changing his that image. Association of Narendra Modi with RSS started when he was 8 years old when he discovered RSS and started attending its local Shakhas ( training sessions) where he met his political mentor Shree Laxmanrao Inamdar who also knew as Vakil Saheb . Vakil sahib inducted him as an RSS Balswayamsevak (junior cadet). During his training in RSS, he also met Vasant Gajendragadkar and Nathlal Jaghda, Bhartiya Jan Sangha Leaders who were founding members of the BJP Gujarat’s unit in 1980. Although little is known about his early travels, in interviews Modi has described visiting Hindu ashrams founded by Swami Vivekanand: the Belur Math near Kolkata, followed by the Advaita Ashrama in Almora and the Ramakrishna mission in Rajkot.
After Indo-Pakistani war in 1971, Modi became a full-time Pracharak (Campaigner) for the RSS. In 1978, he became RSS Sambhaag Pracharak (regional organizer) and received degree in Political Science after a distance education course from Delhi University. Five years later, he received Master of Arts degree in Political Science from Gujarat University. Later on he was assigned by the RSS to the BJP in 1985. He raised within the party, helping organize L.K. Advani’s 1990 Ayodhya Rath Yatra and Murli Manohar Joshi’s 1991-92 Ekta Yatra. Modi then elected as BJP National Secretary in 1995 and then as a Gujarat Chief Minister he proved himself as a national leader.
Thus, RSS has been his path to walk forwards in the Indian Politics. RSS is an organization where disciplined life is the key of every swayamsevak which made Modi as a strong individual. Entire training made him a man with a phenomenal memory, great attention to every detail, and unflagging energy. He is the most active Prime Minister who is continuing working from his PM oath to till now without any day breaks. His devotion towards nation is appreciated by everyone. RSS has one mantra which says “Devotion is not business. It is sheer self-surrender. It is all one-way traffic, we only give, It is only persons of such absolute dedication who can raise the nation to glorious heights from amidst a heap of ruins.
