The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today gave its approval for launching six new Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) in India. The new branches of IIMs will be built at Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Bodh Gaya (Bihar), Sirmaur (Himachal Pradesh), Nagpur (Maharashtra), Sambalpur (Odisha) and Amritsar (Punjab). These IIMs will start from campuses at temporary locations. They will move to permanent sites after building of campuses. The new IIMs will start the first session of their studies from 2015-16. The new Institute will begin with 140 students getting admission in the Post Graduate Programme (PGP) courses. Our expectation is that the yearly intake will increase to 560 students every year within seven years.
The PGP in Management is the initial programme of institutions. The competitive exams like common admission test are conducted for admission to PGP by the IIMs.
The management responsibility will be taken by institutes. They will teach young graduates how to do management responsibilities, engage in research and consultancy. They will work for management and allied areas. Our country will get leaders in many fields of entrepreneurship. Our country will get great leaders and Sri Narendra Modi did the perfect job of giving approval to Indian Institute of Management.
Government of India gave a commitment in the Budget speech in July 2014. The Finance Minister presents this budget. They want to start five new IIMs in Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Punjab. Additionally, the Andhra Pradesh should be reorganized into two States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. There is the requirement of starting IIM in Andhra Pradesh. This will be made as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, developed in 2014.
The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) is composed of a cluster of 13 public, autonomous institutes of management education and research in India. They primarily offer programs in postgraduate, doctoral and executive education. The reputed management institute IIM was established by Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India. The Planning Commission gave them a recommendation.
This organization has been registered under the Indian Societies Registration Act. The IIM are run using independent control. There is independence in their daily operations. The IIM council looks after the administration of IIMs all over India. They take care of the strategy of IIM. Minister of Human Resource Development controls IIM. The board of education includes chairpersons and directors of all IIMs and senior officials of the Government of India.
The Post Graduate Programme of IIM is 2 years duration and offers Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM). This is a flagship programme overall IIMs. Their programs can be compared with regular MBA courses. IIMs offer a Post Graduate diploma Programme for one year. It is good for graduates with professional experience. IIMs provide Fellow Programme in Management (FPM). This is a programme for doing a doctorate. Their Fellowship is thought to be equivalent to doctorate at the international level. There are also short executive programs or EMBA courses as well as part-time programmes.
Indian Institute of Management Calcutta was the first IIM in India. It was established on 13 November 1961. The primary campus is found in Joka, outside Kolkata. There is also regular PGDM programme. There is a two-year full-time postgraduate program. It is known as the Post Graduate Diploma in Computer aided Management (PGDCM). IIM is a member of Global Alliance in Management Education (CEMS), The institution provides CEMS Master’s in International Management (CEMS MIM) degree. They are offered to PGDM and PGDCM students. The institute also provides a one-year postgraduate programme for executives in the manufacturing sector.
Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad ranks second in the list of IIM. It was established on 16 December 1961. This is a regular PGDM programme. There is a two-year postgraduate programme in Agri-Business Management. There is also a one-year postgraduate programme in Public Management and Policy.
Indian Institute of Management Bangalore ranks third IIM and it was established in 1973. The primary campus is situated in Bilekahalli, Bangalore. Other than full-time two-year PGP programme, there are programmes in Enterprise Management (PGPEM), one-year full-time EPGP and Public Policy Management(PGPPM).
Indian Institute of Management Lucknow ranks in the fourth place among the IIM. It started in 1984. The main campus is in Lucknow, The other campus is located in Noida. In 2007, it was first started on executive programmes. Like IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Lucknow offers a programme in Agribusiness Management.
Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode established in 1996. IIM Kozhikode was the first institute in Asia where distance learning program started for working executives.
Indian Institute of Management Indore is the sixth IIM established in 1996.and the campus is located at Rau, near Indore. IIM Indore offers a unique course for armed forces officers, designed particularly for mid-level defence officers in Mumbai and UAE. It offers a unique 5-year program IPM. The participants can directly take admission into this course after Class XII.
\Indian Institute of Management Shillong is known as Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management and it is the seventh IIM after a 2005 decision by the Government of India. The foundation stone was laid by the institute on 1 December 2007 and started an academic session for from 2008–’09.
Indian Institute of Management Rohtak, is the eighth IIM and started in 2010–2011 as part of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan and started operation on 30 June 2010 with IIM Lucknow mentor and the campus is located at Maharishi Dayanand University.
Indian Institute of Management Ranchi is the ninth IIM and it is established in 2010 with IIM Calcutta as a guide and it began operations on 6 July 2010. It offers a special programme in Human resource management called Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management (PGDHRM).
Indian Institute of Management Raipur is tenth IIM. It was started in 11 October 2010 and supervised by IIM Indore and functions at the Government Engineering College (GEC), Sejbahar.
Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli ranks 11th among the IIM and began functioning on 4 January 2011. Members of IIM Bangalore. The operation takes place from from the campus of Yituvkjru National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli.
Indian Institute of Management Kashipur is the twelfth and started in July 2011. After the supervision of IIM Lucknow, the campus got the foundation stone in the Escorts Farm Area of Kashipur, Uttarakhand, in April 2011. It currently operates from a temporary campus located at Ganna Sansthan in Kashipur.
