Meaning: When you are in a stage of Yoga, all misconceptions (vrittis) that can exist in the mutable aspect of human being (chitta) disappear.

Yoga: It is a physical, spiritual and mental discipline or practice which was originated in ancient India 2500 many years ago and is still effective in bringing overall health and well-being of the individuals who perform it regularly. Generally, yoga means to connect, to culminate or to concur the mind, soul and body. International Yoga Day is celebrated on 21st June of every year as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, sharing special significance in various parts of the world.

  • To spread awareness about the benefits of Yoga in our life
  • Joining the communities to spend a day for health from busy schedules
  • To strengthen the global coordination among people through Yoga
  • Providing the solution of mental illness and stress to the people
  • To reduce the rate of health challenging diseases all over the world
  • To protect unhealthy practices and promote good practices to make health better
  • Developing link between the protection of health and sustainable health development
  • To promote better mental and physical health of people through yoga practices

On 21st June 2016, Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi visited Chandigarh to celebrate the International Yoga Day for the second time. PM Modi arrived at 6:30 A.M, well dressed in a white T-shirt, trouser and a colorful scarf to participate in a mass demonstration of “Common Yoga Protocol.” The event was organized in the Capitol Complex, Chandigarh. The ministry had organized the event titled “The National Event of Mass Demonstration.” Chief Minister of Punjab Shri Parkash Singh Badal, Haryana CM Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, Haryana BJP President Mr. Subhash Barala, State’s Health Minister Mr. Anil Vij, MP of Ambala Mr. R L Kataria, Kalka MLA Smt. Latika Sharma, Secretary AYUSH Shri Ajit Mohan Sharan, Union Minister Mr. Vijay Sampla and Chandigarh BJP President Mr. Sanjay Tandon also performed yoga on this occasion.

PM addressed the participants at the iconic Capitol Complex and mentioned the benefits of Yoga Practice to maintain a healthy state of mind and body. He was pleased with the fact that people in different parts of the country have come forward to connect with Yoga. Not only in India, but in various cities of the abroad country, this International Yoga Day has been celebrated with full enthusiasm and spirit. According to him, this event has linked many of us to a main goal of maintaining health and nowadays, it has become a mass movement all over the world. What can be more beneficial than this Zero Budget Yoga Practice that not only provides health assurance to the people, but also eliminate the discrimination between rich and poor group.

He said that we got the support of the entire world, both developed and developing countries. This year, the United Nations has celebrated Jan Andolan with a great contribution of Yoga practices. He also declared the two awards for the people who will work to popularize Yoga at the National and International level. Giving an indication of Yoga Programme in the next year, he asked the practitioners to focus on how to mitigate diabetes through Yoga.

According to him, if the developing countries like India will focus on preventive health care, then we will become able to save huge expenditures or budget which can be useful for the other causes. Among all the types of preventive health care, Yoga is one of the simplest, cheap and useful practices that provide benefits to all human beings no matter at what age they are. The Indian Government is also focusing on quality council in order to determine the Yoga training and experts, for that we have decided norms that will work for it. Along with World Health Organization, the Indian Government is also working on the protocols of Yoga so that people will come to know the exact way of practices. He also mentioned the benefits of Yoga in pregnancy.

Many of us find ourselves restless after 8-9 hours working hours in offices. But if we follow the routine of Yoga Practices in our daily life, then it will not refresh your mind, but also help to maintain a balance between behavior and social life. Yoga also increases our endurance.

After addressing the participants, Prime Minister did not prefer to take a seat at the stage, instead of that, he walked, amidst, joined and mingled with participants to perform Yoga. He performed asanas with the participants. Over 30000 people took part in a yoga session of 45 minutes at the Capitol Complex.  Shri Modi joined defense, ITBP and Punjab Armed Police personnel and students who were among the participants, after a brief interaction with a 150 strong contingent of differently abled people.

In India, different schools, colleges, government departments, Indian Navy, airport officials, defense communities came forward to become the part of this event. International Yoga Day was also celebrated in Indian Embassy of Egypt. People in various parts of the world like United Nation, Paris, New York, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, Japan, Sri Lanka, Egypt etc. participated in Yoga Protocol.
